About the Research Project

Virus entry into host cells is one of the most important yet least understood stages of viral infection. Human cells possess numerous antiviral proteins—known as restriction factors—that can prevent viral entry. However, many of these protective mechanisms remain undiscovered.

This PhD project aims to identify and characterize novel antiviral proteins using an interdisciplinary approach combining:

  • Virology

  • Large-scale cell culture

  • CRISPR functional genomics

  • Computational biology

  • Experimental evolution

Researchers will utilize a unique collection of over 100 viral pseudotypes representing 14 virus families, enabling systematic investigation of viral entry inhibition across numerous emerging human and animal viruses.
