IBSA Foundation Research Equity Prize

Alongside the fellowship program, IBSA Foundation will award a €5,000 Research Equity Prize to the best research proposal developed in a laboratory, research institute, or university located in a developing country.

The award aims to promote equitable access to research funding while recognizing scientific excellence in resource-limited settings.

Eligible countries include many nations in:

  • Africa

  • Latin America & the Caribbean

  • Most Asian countries (excluding Israel, Japan, and South Korea)

  • Most Oceania countries (excluding Australia and New Zealand)


Who Can Apply?

Applicants of any nationality are welcome.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be under 40 years of age on the application deadline.

  • Hold a degree in:

    • Medicine

    • Biology

    • Pharmacy

    • Biotechnology

    • Bioengineering

  • Belong to one of the following categories:

    • PhD Student

    • PhD Graduate

    • Postdoctoral Researcher

    • Medical Resident

  • Be actively affiliated with a host research institution such as:

    • University

    • Hospital

    • Research Institute

    • Biomedical Research Center

Note: Applicants holding permanent academic positions (such as Professors) are not eligible.


Fellowship Benefits

Successful applicants will receive:

  • €32,000 fellowship funding

The fellowship does not cover:

Payment Schedule

The fellowship will be paid in two installments:

  • 50% before the research project begins

  • 50% by the end of 2027

The Research Equity Prize (€5,000) will be paid as a single installment before the project starts.
