Overview

The Cihakova Lab at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is recruiting a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join newly funded research projects in the field of immunology and inflammatory disease.

The laboratory, led by Daniela Cihakova, focuses on understanding immune mechanisms involved in autoimmune diseases and inflammatory disorders, with major research interests in myocarditis, dilated cardiomyopathy, cardiac inflammation, and autoimmune disease pathogenesis.

This position provides an opportunity to work in a collaborative research environment investigating how immune responses contribute to disease development and progression.

Research Focus

The Cihakova Laboratory studies immune mechanisms driving:

  • Autoimmune diseases

  • Inflammatory heart diseases

  • Myocarditis and dilated cardiomyopathy

  • Cardiac inflammation and remodeling

  • Immune-mediated disease mechanisms

The lab also investigates immune pathways involved in diseases such as Sjogren’s syndrome, congenital complete heart block, rheumatoid arthritis, and other autoimmune conditions through collaborative projects.

Research Methods and Technologies

The successful candidate will work with advanced immunological approaches including:

  • Flow cytometry
  • Cell isolation and culture
  • ELISA and cytokine analysis
  • qPCR
  • Immunostaining
  • In vivo and in vitro experimental models

Experience with:

  • Omics technologies

  • Computational biology

  • Bioinformatics approaches

will be considered an advantage.

Candidate Requirements

Applicants should have:

  • Ph.D. degree in Immunology or a closely related field
  • Strong experience in basic immunological techniques
  • Ability to design and perform independent research
  • Strong analytical skills and scientific writing ability
  • Record of scientific productivity through publications

The ideal candidate will be:

  • Independent and motivated

  • Collaborative team member

  • Interested in making high-impact discoveries in immunology research

Why Join the Cihakova Lab?

The laboratory provides an interdisciplinary environment combining:

  • Immunology

  • Pathology

  • Cardiovascular inflammation research

  • Autoimmune disease biology

The lab uses experimental disease models and modern immunological approaches to understand mechanisms underlying inflammatory diseases and identify potential therapeutic targets.
